One of Britain's loneliest pensioners has been told the news that he has oesophageal cancer just days after sharing his grief on a documentary.

John Foster, 76, who has outlived all his friends and family, has said he wishes he wasn't here after discovering he has the disease just six weeks ago.

The former shipyard worker, who appeared in the Channel 4 documentary Britain's Forgotten Pensioners, is now unable to eat and is forced to survive on liquid protein mixes that he says 'taste vile'.

Two hedgehogs rescued after getting trapped facedown in uncovered drains

The RSPCA is urging people to check drains aren’t left uncovered after two hedgehogs got trapped facedown in them.

The prickly creatures were found on two separate identical incidents within days of each other.

One was discovered at a property in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham on May 21, while the other was found about 17 miles away at an address in Gilesgate ten days later.

The two adult female hedgehogs had both fallen and become wedged, face-down in uncovered drains.

Mystery surrounds dead deer found dumped in bag in Sunderland alleyway
